Pinch me I'm....German.

On Sunday my Brother and I will attempt to run a 5K!!
This will be my first run that I will be in. I'm really excited, except the fact that I am REALLY out of shape and haven't really ran for a few months...
I had fully planed to be in shape for this.
Then I got THE cold.
plus our road has been covered with ice for the past three months.
Having said this, I really am excited to run! it should be "fun", or so I keep trying to tell myself..
The other day my Brother reminded me to where green.
I love green! but after looking in my closet, I came to the startling discovery that don't really own anything green!
How could this happen???
So, I had to make something green A.S.A.P!!!

So, here it is! a Green Ear-warmer!

These boot's where made for walking.

I finally got around to buying boot yarn!

Cotton Classic 100% Mercerised cotton. color-Black.
Since the cotton is a little shiny it gives an almost leather look, which is what I was going for.
It was $6.25 for the skein. A bit much for what I got..
I am thinking that when I run out of it I might try and find some stuff that is a little cheaper.

I wanted the boots to have a cuff on them. So instead of knitting them separate then having to sew them on I purled the first 5 rounds. So when you fold the top over it would make a nice cuff.

here it is with the cuff rolled down

picking up the st. for the heel.

the finished boot's!

After sewing the boot's on I decided that I had sewn the boots on to low.
Making Gandalf's legs freakishly long...
So today I sewed them on higher. the picture above is before I resewed them on.
~
I wanted to share another book that I am using that is helping me greatly!

I got it at a used book store for just a few dollars.
and so far it has been a great buy!!!
I highly recommend getting this one! it has the history of knitting and lots of helpful tips

I also really love the illustrations!

I love this guy. He just looks so wise. If you where to ask him the meaning of life he would tell you-
"Knitting, my child"

haha, this one just makes me smile :)

I'm off to go work on Gandalf's cloak now, so.
Happy Knitting~

Paint on my hands.

Once again I'm showing you all, that I DO have other interest's other then knitting.
I have always enjoyed painting.
There's just something about mixing the colors and getting paint EVERYWHERE that helps me to relax and unwind if I'm really stressed.
~
Now for a little back history.
A few years ago my Mom got me a reproduction china head doll for Christmas.
through the years I have enjoyed sewing historic clothing for her.
This is her. Her name is Ophelia.

For a while now I have been wanting to paint her portrait, but I haven't been brave enough.
I decided that this needed to change.
So a few weeks ago I asked my Dad ( who is an amazing woodworker/master craftsman (he would be the last person to say so, but he is!!) ) if he would make me some wooden ovals to paint.
And being the awesome Dad that he is, he did!

you can almost see the pencil lines on the wood.
I started with the skin tone and miner shading.

then I moved onto her hair.

then I painted her dress. then...... the part that I had been dreading...
the facial features...BOOOOO
Even though I enjoy painting doesn't mean that I really know HOW to paint!
I have always had trouble when it comes to painting people and there face's. But I had to try!

It's not perfect. But it's the best I could and ever well do!
I am very happy with how her mouth turned out though. It is usually where I have the most problems.
I am planing on painting another portrait of another doll that I have but I need another oval first.*coughDadcough*
I will have to post up some more photo's some time of all the dresses that I have made for Ophelia.
that's another day..
I don't think you can EVER grow out of playing with dolls!
Why let the little girls have all the fun?
Happy Painting~

Say it with me COWL. COWLLL. COWLLLLLL not cow.

My Mom always says, "you're going to knit a cow?!"
(Me)" yes, Mom. I'm going to knit a cow...."
One of the Girls in my Bible study has a birthday today. I had to think of something I could get ( or even better, MAKE ) her.
whats better then a nice warm cowl?
I had the yarn, and the time.
~
the yarn

you can't tell from the pic, but this is a rather large ball of yarn.
simply soft. color/ Bone. I had this yarn already in my larger-basket stash.
I like using simply soft. It's VERY soft and holds up well.
I used very large needle's ( I don't really know what size they are...)
and a very simple seed stitch pattern.
~
Here it is finished

When I sewed up the back seem I twisted it to give it some more added interest.

Side view.

I gathered the seem in the "back".
I say "back" because the gathers could be worn in front if wanted.
I love cowls. They are warm, trendy, and fast/easy to make.

A vacation, or something like it...

Yesterday I didn't knit!
( I did knit, just not all day...I knit for about an hour in the evening. )
I sewed. because yes, I am *multicraftual.
( *yes, I do know that's not a real word. but you know what I mean so, just live with it. )
~
Most of my smaller needles, such as DPNS, Circular, cable needles, I store in a tin box.
Some people have a drawer, others have bag. but you know we all have one. every knitters dirty little secret.

I decided that this needed to be fixed.
why BUY a needle case when I could make one for free.
I had some fabric left over from when I made my sewing basket last year. so I used that.

I love the green. It makes me happy. :)
So yesterday I was very busy appliqueing numbers.

The other nice thing about making, instead of buying is that I can customize.
how many needle case's that you buy have spots for not only 0, but 00, 000 also?

this is my knitting basket. isn't it cool?
I got the basket from goodwill for about $10, and the fabric only cost me $12 for two yards!
and with the left over I made a needle case that matches.
I still have my tin box but now it is more organized.
Plus it's SO much easier to find the needles I want!
so
Happy Sewing~

Being Fearless

The other day I checked out this book for 2 reasons. #1. Because I loved the title.

I mean, Fearless knitting! how awesome is that?!?!
Even though it's really a book for beginner knitters. So to me it's really not that fearful of a book...
#2. Is because of this pattern.

"Plum Tree".
I have seen this pattern before when researching online and I have always wanted to try it. Now that I am working on a project like LOTR where some of the characters are from Gonder.... They, of course need the white tree emblem on there armor ( sweaters, what have you )!
So I made the square that is in the book to get the hang of the pattern.
( I would show you a picture, except for the fact that my camera won't take a picture of it...I tried, really I did!...)
once, having that completed I started sizing it down from CO 40 st. to CO 24 st.

Here is the finished sample ( Sized down )
It's not perfect, but it's a start.
And that is what I did yesterday.
Happy Cabling~

The Stash.

I think it's time I showed you part of my stash.
Every time I post up some yarn that I found somewhere in my stash, it probably came from here-

This is where I store all the little bit's of yarn that you always have left over from projects.
You could call it my Bowl of Mystery.
Mostly because I really don't know what half the stuff in there is...

here is something that I found in my Bowl 'O mystery

It's light chocolaty brown. I think it might have some mohair in it. and it might be wool.
But it came from the mystery bowl so who knows?

I used it for Gandalf's staff!

I knitted it like an I cord.
To give it added strength I knitted it around a pipe cleaner!

here's the back of the I cord.
It worked really well!!!
~
I love being able to find yarn in one's stash
that works PERFECTLY plus it's free!
~
Well that's all for now!
Happy Stash hunting~
